About the role
From Handshake AI’s listing.
Pay: Up to $180/hour
Opportunity Overview
Handshake is looking for facial and maxillofacial trauma surgeons to support AI research through flexible, part-time contract work. This is not a traditional job. You’ll draw on your surgical training and hands-on experience in craniofacial and maxillofacial trauma, including facial fractures, soft tissue injuries, airway and orbital trauma, and reconstruction, to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI reason like a practicing facial trauma surgeon. The Handshake AI program runs year-round, with project opportunities opening periodically across different areas of expertise.
This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity you can take on alongside your current role.
What You’ll Do
Use your surgical expertise to create expert-level tasks that today’s top AI models can’t solve, based on real clinical workflows such as trauma assessment, CT interpretation of facial fractures, operative planning, fixation and reconstruction decisions, and perioperative management
Review and evaluate AI-generated responses for clinical accuracy, patient safety, and alignment with current facial and maxillofacial trauma practice and guidelines
Provide clear, structured written feedback to help improve AI model performance
Work remotely and complete tasks at your own pace, with no set schedule or minimum hour requirement
Qualifications
Degree and clinical training:
Completed MD, DO, DDS, DMD, or equivalent medical or dental degree
Completed residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery, otolaryngology (head and neck surgery), or plastic and reconstructive surgery, with a focus on facial or craniofacial trauma
Licensure: Currently licensed to practice in the United States
Clinical depth: Working knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
Mandibular, midface, and orbital fractures
Frontal sinus and skull base trauma
Facial soft tissue injuries and lacerations
Dentoalveolar trauma and occlusion
Airway management in facial trauma
Craniofacial and post-traumatic reconstruction
Additional qualifications (not required, but strengthen your application)
Board certification or board eligibility in your specialty, or fellowship training in craniofacial, trauma, or reconstructive surgery
Experience at a Level I trauma center, academic medical center, or teaching hospital, peer-reviewed publications, or involvement in clinical research
Required for all applicants
Must have US work authorization
Strong written communication and attention to detail
Ability to explain complex surgical and trauma concepts clearly
Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment
