Job counts and pay in this guide come from the live listings on this site as of October 28, 2026. They change daily; the linked pages always show today’s numbers.
You have seen micro1 roles quoted at $140 to $400 an hour and you want to know whether the company and its AI interview are real before you give up an evening to apply. We joined micro1 and went through its screening ourselves, and we list its open roles every day.
Here is the verdict, the live numbers, and who the work actually fits.
TL;DR
- Yes, micro1 is a real company that hires contractors for AI training work. We applied and completed the AI recruiter interview ourselves.
- It has 252 open listings right now, as of October 28, 2026. 247 of them state an hourly rate, with a median top rate of $90/hr.
- Nothing in the process asks you to pay. Almost every listing shows the rate up front, and the rest give it during onboarding.
- 61 of the 252 listings need no degree or specialist experience. Most of those are generalist evaluation roles.
- Eligibility is mixed: 56 listings name specific countries, 36 say worldwide, and 160 say only "Remote", which does not confirm your country.
Is micro1 legit?
Yes, micro1 is legit as a place to apply for AI training work, and the checks below are the ones we ran before listing it.
It is a real company with real roles. micro1 recruits contractors for AI data work and screens them through an AI recruiter interview. The listings we see are specific: named fields, named specialisms, stated rates. You can look at the official site at jobs.micro1.ai.
It does not charge you to apply. Applying happens on the listing page, and the AI interview follows. If any platform ever asks you to pay for training, equipment or a background check before you start, stop and walk away.
You can see the rate before you accept a project. 247 of the 252 open listings state an hourly rate. The other 5 give the rate during onboarding, so ask for it in writing before you commit time.
The domain is the one you expect. Applications run through jobs.micro1.ai. Lookalike domains are the usual trick in this market, so check the URL before you enter anything.
We describe how we joined and screened on each platform on our vetting process page. We list what we went through ourselves. We do not read or approve individual listings, and listings come from each platform's public feed daily.
What micro1 hires for right now
As of October 28, 2026, micro1 accounts for 252 of the 1,730 open listings on our site. That is its biggest share, and the spread of fields is wider than most platforms.
| Field | Open micro1 listings |
|---|---|
| Generalist | 64 |
| Law & compliance | 43 |
| Software & data | 29 |
| Finance & business | 28 |
| Medicine & health | 28 |
| Science & engineering | 23 |
| Voice & audio | 18 |
| Design & creative | 8 |
The generalist block is the largest single group, and it is also the most open. If you have no specialist background, look there first. Our generalist AI training jobs page filters that work across every platform we cover.
The law and compliance group is unusually strong for a single platform. Attorney and regulatory roles sit at the top of the pay range, and they expect a real professional background. You can filter those on our law and compliance page. Engineering and data roles are smaller in number, and our software and data page shows how they compare with the other platforms.
Typical open roles look like this:
| Role | Pay | Countries |
|---|---|---|
| Investment Funds and Asset Management Attorney | $140-$400/hr | Not stated |
| Venture Capital and Corporate Attorney | $140-$400/hr | Not stated |
| FDA and Regulatory Compliance Attorney | $140-$400/hr | Not stated |
| Structured Finance Attorney | $140-$400/hr | Not stated |
| Management Consulting Expert | $60-$120/hr | United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil |
| Financial Due Diligence and Transaction Accounting | $60-$120/hr | United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil |
| Investment Banking and M&A Expert | $60-$120/hr | United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil |
| Corporate Finance and Financial Modeling Expert | $60-$120/hr | United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil |
What it pays
Among the 247 micro1 listings that state an hourly rate right now, the median top rate is $90/hr. The top rate is what gets quoted, so read every figure as "up to". A listing at $140-$400/hr is paying up to $400/hr for the work it values most, not $400/hr from the first hour.
The spread as of October 28, 2026:
- 10th percentile: $30/hr
- Median top rate: $90/hr
- 90th percentile: $300/hr
- Highest: $400/hr
The legal roles above sit at the top of that range because the work needs a practising attorney's judgement. The consulting and finance roles sit lower at $60-$120/hr. Rates move with the field, the seniority and how hard the skill is to find. 5 of the 252 listings do not state pay at all. The rate is given during onboarding, so ask for it before you spend hours on a sample task.
Lists show a ceiling, so apply the usual test: would you do the low end of the range for a few hours a week? If the answer is no, that listing is not for you.
Who can apply
Eligibility is the part most applicants skim, and it decides whether the rest matters.
| What the listing says | Listings |
|---|---|
| Names specific countries | 56 |
| Says worldwide | 36 |
| Says only "Remote" | 160 |
"Remote" alone does not mean worldwide. A listing is open to you in a country only if it names that country or says worldwide. The 160 Remote-only listings have not told us where they hire, so treat them as unknown until the listing or the recruiter confirms.
Where countries are named, the United States dominates with 54 listings. The United Kingdom follows with 9 and Canada with 7. After that comes a Latin America cluster: Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Costa Rica and Ecuador each appear on 6 listings. Language demand is narrow: Cantonese on 3 listings, then Spanish, Vietnamese, Japanese and German on 2 or fewer.
Whether you can take contract work at all, and how you handle tax and any visa conditions, depends on where you live, so check locally before you apply.
How you get in
We went through this ourselves. The steps are simple and the screening is the real filter.
Apply on the listing page
Pick the listing that matches your background and apply there. Applying for a role you cannot evidence wastes your time and the reviewer's.
Complete the AI recruiter interview
The interview is run by an AI recruiter. It asks about your experience, and for technical roles it tests the skill itself. There are no trick questions to memorise, and we do not describe specific questions. Prepare by having two or three concrete examples of your work ready, and by being precise about what you have done and what you have not.
Do it somewhere quiet with a working camera and microphone. That sounds trivial until a good candidate fails on audio. Our guide to passing the micro1 AI recruiter interview walks through the format step by step.
Wait for a match
Passing does not put you on a project immediately. You are matched when a project opens that fits your profile, and that timing varies by project. We have no data on how long matching takes, so plan around it rather than counting on a start date.
Where the odds are best
Generalist Evaluation Specialist listings are the most open entry point, and 61 of the 252 open roles need no degree or specialist experience. Candidates with a credible professional record in law, finance, medicine or engineering should apply to those specialist roles instead, where the rates are higher and the pool is smaller.
Who it suits, who should skip it
It suits you if you have a specialist background you can demonstrate, whether that is a law licence, a finance desk, clinical work or research. It also suits recent graduates who can write clearly and reason carefully, because the generalist roles are built for that profile. If you are willing to sit a short AI interview on camera and then wait for a project, this is a reasonable place to spend an hour.
Skip it if you need a guaranteed weekly income. This is project work, and being matched is not the same as being scheduled. Skip it if you want to stay off camera, since the screening uses video and audio. Skip it if you are in a country that no listing names and every role you like says only "Remote", because you cannot assume you qualify. And skip the legal roles unless you genuinely hold the credentials, because a weak fit gets found out in the skill test.
If micro1 does not fit, SME Careers names eligible countries on nearly every role, and AfterQuery suits experts who want to write and judge tasks inside their own field.
